Local Indie label 307 Knox Records is having a 5th anniversary bash and asked me to make a little poster for the occasion. If you’re in the Triangle come on out to the Pinhook on the 19th. Party time.

While I wait out the 40 hours that stand between me and my husband, looking at photos of their adventures over coffee is a strong 2nd to having him smile back at me from the other side of the table.
I get teary eyed and cry for so many reasons when I see the documentation of their last month and a half. Sure, partly I miss them, I want them home and long to hear the stories first hand, but mostly, because I’m so proud of them. They are by far some of the hardest working fellas out there, music or otherwise. They have been dedicated to this dream since the day that I met them. There’s passion and honesty in their work.
Sure I could have a hubby working a 9-5, coming home at the end of each day declaring “Honey I’m Home”. And when I explain to people that I work with that my husband tours 3-5 months out of the year, they pat me on the shoulder and look at me with pure pity. But really, the waiting and longing is worth it just to see this. To see these three bearded goofballs gallivanting overseas, marking each new city with a little more love and laughter by singing and stomping the night away.

My grandfather used to play a lot of music for me when I was younger. Constantly trying to educate me on what “real” music was, and strongly opposing the sounds of Paula Abdul and Color Me Bad.
We bonded early over his LP’s, I loved holding them, and putting the needle down slowly to hear the big room fill with the sounds of Donny Hathaway, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald and the like.
I remember the first time that I became really interested in what grandpa was playing, was over a Louis Prima song. I was helping my grandma hang ornaments on the tree and he put on “The Wildest”. Of course, I had already fallen in love with Louis’ voice when he was the voice of King Louis in Jungle Book and played a song on Mary Poppins, so the sell was easy.
But still to this day, his songs remind me of building fires in the fireplace at the farm. Trudging through wintery piles of snow in boots and snowpants, and making spritz cookies with that wierd-o tube dough dispenser gadget.

Willie has a favorite dog food called, Taste of the Wild. The artwork on the bag looks like a Jack London novel. This weekend we found out that it comes in that oh so delectable “crack-for-dogs” form, wet food. Above was the 20 minutes that followed.

Had a great time at art walk this weekend. the only real bummer is that if you’re a vendor, you don’t really get to walk around and see other people’s stuff. met some great people though and sold a bundle of things. operation sellsomecrafts complete.
